The Workskills programme runs in different periods throughout the year. The sessions are taught towards a BTEC level 1 Awards Diploma in Workskills. The unit is on ‘Investigating Portfolio Careers and Self-employment’.
Aspire To Inspire (ATI) is a short course aimed at helping young people aged 12-17 years old to develop business ideas. This course is run twice a year. Young people have an opportunity to present their plans to potential investors.
Skills for growth is aimed at helping young people get valuable experience by placing them in internships in their career of choice. For internships at other companies, we assist young people in the application process, preparing their CV, and we provide them with interview guidance.
Throughout the year we schedule trips to broaden the young people's experiences, opportunities otherwise unavailable to them. These trips aim to give young people the chance to learn and grow educationally, physically, emotionally and socially.
To combat the disparity of grades children from disadvantaged backgrounds have compared to children from higher income families who are able to provide the resources to supplement school learning, we aim to provide extra-curricular support. Free tutoring classes will be held either 1:1 or in small groups, supporting young people particularly in Maths, English and Science.
After exploring difference career paths and learning about the difference between a portfolio career and self employment - in a group of two the participants prepared a presentation to pitch their business idea to a group of judges to win the most sustainable business idea award... almost like a mini apprentice
